I didn't come to this work through a clean story of overnight transformation. I came through 5 years of understanding my own patterns — the ways I'd learned to play small, suppress my voice and please for acceptance rather than just be myself. Growing up, I absorbed messages that taught me to second-guess my own instincts. My mum's anxiety became my anxiety. My dad's expectations became my expectations. My early friendships taught me it was safer to try to fit in than to stand out. For a long time, I carried other people's fears and standards as if they were my own. Understanding all of this helped me change it, for myself and my clients.
